In Montenegro, the Future Leaders of Diplomacy Take Centre Stage
For six inspiring days, Montenegro became a global meeting point where the future of diplomacy took centre stage.
From 21 to 26 June 2026, the XIX Summer School for Young Diplomats “Gavro Vuković” brought together young diplomats from 48 countries, alongside more than 30 distinguished speakers from Montenegro and around the world. Held under the theme “From Rules to Reality – Diplomacy in the Age of Motion”,the programme offered a unique platform for dialogue, learning, and international cooperation at a time when diplomacy is being reshaped by geopolitical shifts, technological transformation, and emerging security challenges.
More than a professional development programme, the Summer School served as a vibrant international forum where young diplomats engaged with experienced policymakers, ambassadors, academics, and renowned experts. Through lectures, panel discussions, workshops, and informal exchanges, participants explored new perspectives, challenged conventional thinking, and developed innovative approaches to diplomacy. Just as importantly, they built the trust, friendships, and professional networks that will help shape tomorrow’s international cooperation.
This year’s edition carried special significance as Montenegro marked 20 years since the restoration of its independence. The anniversary offered an opportunity to reflect on the country’s diplomatic journey while reaffirming its enduring commitment to dialogue, multilateralism, peace, and international cooperation.
Since its establishment in 2008, the Summer School for Young Diplomats “Gavro Vuković” has grown into one of Montenegro’s flagship international diplomatic initiatives. To date, it has welcomed more than 900 young diplomats from 99 countries and hosted over 300 distinguished speakers, creating a global community of professionals committed to strengthening international understanding and cooperation.
In a world where dialogue has never been more important, investing in young diplomatic leaders means investing in peace, resilience, and stronger international partnerships.
Although the programme has officially concluded, its impact is only beginning. The conversations started in Montenegro will continue through new collaborations, professional networks, and lasting friendships that transcend borders and cultures.
