Michal holds a PhD in Balkan studies from the Charles University in Prague and during his studies had several opportunities to work closer with the Balkan countries, including an internship at the Leadership Research Team of the ICTY in 2009. In 2013 he started working for the Department of South-Eastern Europe of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic and three years later moved to Belgrade to the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Serbia, where he was in charge of political and cultural affairs. Currently he is back home at the Ministry.
During last couple of years Michal took part in various schools for young diplomats in Montenegro (where he also held a lecture as an alumni), Croatia, Romania, Bulgaria or Slovenia. Twice he was part of the OSCE Election Observation Missions in Northern Macedonia and he regularly holds lectures on Balkan studies at various universities in Slovakia.
When he was younger he used to be an engaged participant in academic debate program, having won the national final debate tournament and later on participated in three World Schools Debating Championships. He was and still is an active tennis player and also enjoys playing the guitar.
