Aleksandar Drljević, after graduating agricultural engineering at the Faculty of Agriculture, started his career in the food technology sector at the Žitopromet A.D. Spuž in the sector for quality control and introduction of ISO standards. Afterwards, he continued his work in the civil sector as an activist and director of the NGO “Green Montenegro”, which has implemented numerous projects and activities aimed at preserving Montenegro as an ecological state and promoting sustainable development.

He holds notable experience in the management of international projects and in the cooperation with the donor community. He received advanced trainings in the fields of environmental protection, diplomatic relations and sustainable development, in the United States, France, Italy and the People’s Republic of China. Until his assignment as Chief Negotiator for Montenegro’s accession to the EU, he was Director-General for EU and Regional Cooperation in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Prior to this, he was on a diplomatic mission in Rome in charge of Italy, Malta and San Marino, as well as of the UN agencies based in Rome – UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), World Food Program (WFP) and International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).

In the period following Montenegro’s renewal of independence, he also served as Deputy Secretary for European Integration in charge of donor support, as well as Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration for the Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance – IPA. He holds extensive experience in all work sectors, including the business sector, the governmental and non-governmental sectors, and diplomacy, as well as experience in the integration process, including the IPA funds. He is fluent in English, French and Italian.
